She's looking for culture/food/history/arts, I'm just looking for something relaxing, it has to have sand/water/sun/ and a lot of booze. But as long as she's happy, we're happy.
1. 5 days in capri, then rent a car and explore the area for 5 days (naples, rome).
2. 5 days in malta, 2 days in sicily, 3 days exploring southern italy.
3. 5 days in malta, 5 days in capri and taking day trips to the mainland.
4. either malta or capri then off to mikonos (greece).
5. 3 days in northern italy/monaco, train to bologna, buy a ducati and ship it back to the states, visit modena, rent a ferrari or a lambo, do 3 smokey donuts, then 3 days in capri/malta. (oh god, THIS ONE PLEASE!!)

If I was visiting Italy, I'd make a pilgrimage to Maranello.

Ive been to Italy a couple times, I would say the best place, romantic wise for newlyweds, would be the Amalphi Coast.(SP?) You take a bus ride that literally hangs over the edge of cliffs and then you come to these small towns in the hills with little villas and the beaches are amazing and not to mention the food, oh the food! There is a ton of awsome little shops there for your newlywed to shop for, i bought my mom quite a few vases and such. Very romantic and the little hotels are wonderful, there is a view of the ocean everywhere you go!

My wife and I are going to Italy for 10 days in Oct. for our first anniversary. We are flying into Rome and immediately taking a train to Florence. We spend our first 3 nights in Florence, then we take a train to the Amalfi coast. I think we are staying at the Hotel Positano on the Amalfi coast for 3 nights and renting a convertible to drive along the coastline and take a trip to Pompei. We also plan to take a ferry to Capri. We then go to Rome for our last 3 nights. We were originally going to go to Rome, Florence, and Venice, but then we saw pics of the Amalfi coast (and heard great things about it), so we decided to pass on Venice.
depends what you are really interested in...just absorbing the atmosphere and having dinner in one of the more historic squares in cities like Bologna, Mantova, Parma is far better than getting stuck in venice in my opinion..too many tourists and trinket shops.
N.Italy is significantly "richer" than the south (apart from Rome) and it shows in the availability of hotels..things to do...but also much more pricey. Since moving to Euro currency..Italy feels more expensive than it did in the past. South is still more un-touched, rural and slower moving pace..mountain villages with donkeys carrying goods etc.
Milan is close enough for the lakes...Como etc. and has the culture..shopping..music..
If you want disco and sand scene...Rimini is probably one of the lively places..San Marino not so far away. Though personally find Rimini a bit cheap and tacky.
I found that rental cars are small and expensive!..compared to other Euro countries...so check prices before just turning up at the airport rental desk..

Honeymoon......hmmmm
First of all, forget Greece.
Italy is MUCH nicer and you can spend a year there before you see everything.
Also, Spain is a LOT nicer than Greece, and mountains more to see.
Next, what kind of people are you and your loved one......
Type A.....Laying out on the beach all day sipping Pina Coladas, and taking naps.
Type B.....Laying out on the beach for a few hours, and then go out into the city to
sightsee......
Type C.....Your first time in a new place and you want to see as much as possible.
So....
Type A.....Capri hands down.....Tuscany Region if you want to relax in the country side.
Type B.....Capri for 3 days, the rest on the mainland.....
Type C (my recommendation)
2 Nights in Venice.....
Stay in the city called Lido....very close to venice (less than a mile, but must travel by boat....most hotels have free shuttles to and from (until midnight)
2 Nights in Florence.....Duomo is beautiful, truly something to see, and the city is PACKED with things to do.
2 Nights in Rome
2 Nights in Bellagio
*Note on Maranello....unless you REALLY want to see a ferrari showroom, and history poster board, there isnt much to see there, its also REALLY out of the way from everything.
Cap the vacation off with 2 nights at Riva Del Garda.....one the the "great lakes" in Italy. VERY beautiful place.
Let me know if you need some good hotel recommendations.
