We're planning on heading to Italy after our marriage for a 10 day jaunt. Neither of us have been to Italy and were hoping that some of you who are familar with the country could assist us in planning a great honeymoon!
She's looking for culture/food/history/arts, I'm just looking for something relaxing, it has to have sand/water/sun/ and a lot of booze. But as long as she's happy, we're happy.
1. 5 days in capri, then rent a car and explore the area for 5 days (naples, rome).
2. 5 days in malta, 2 days in sicily, 3 days exploring southern italy.
3. 5 days in malta, 5 days in capri and taking day trips to the mainland.
4. either malta or capri then off to mikonos (greece).
5. 3 days in northern italy/monaco, train to bologna, buy a ducati and ship it back to the states, visit modena, rent a ferrari or a lambo, do 3 smokey donuts, then 3 days in capri/malta. (oh god, THIS ONE PLEASE!!)

if you decide to pass some day to Rome I will gladly make you see all the beauties of my city!!!
Bye Luca..
I honeymooned in Italy four years ago, and have also been two other times. [Also, my parents are from Italy.]
You have made a great choice! Here is what I would recommend:
Fly into Roma, spend 3 days seeing the historic sites and eating and drinking the most wonderful food and wine in the world! [Good bottles of wine at the store are $2!!!]
Take a train to Sorrento, near Naples. If interested, tour Pompeii, it is incredible!
Then take a Mercedes taxicab to Positano [no train service], on the Amalfi Coast, for three days. This is one of the most beautiful places in Italy, with mountains spilling into the sea!
Go back to Napoli [Naples], and fly to Sicily and tour this beautiful island, spend 2-3 days.
You will run out of time so fly back to Napoli or Roma for your return flight. [For just a little extra money you can fly into one city and return from another.]
I would avoid Capri, it is very expensive and the tourists arrive by the droves every day. We went to Ischia instead.
Have a great trip, you will never forget it!!!
