This is amazing. If you don't know horses you won't understand.

I hadn't seen it. It is indeed amazing. Those one-step lead changes and canter pirouettes are stunning. And it looks effortless! I'm sure I'll never be able to get a horse to do anything close to that.

Again, for those of you who don't ride, this means nothing. If I saw this three years ago I wouldn't have understood how incredibly difficult these maneuvers are; it would have meant nothing to me as well. Having now started trying to work on some of these, I can appreciate that this horse and rider are amazingly skillful.

Two years ago we went to Del Mar and watched the US Olympic hopefuls compete in the Musicale. There were four or five typical dressage horses: Dutch Warmbloods, Hanovarians - big horses: 17+ hands, 2,000+ lbs. And there was one Arabian! Sixteen hands (huge for an Arab!), maybe 1,000 lbs. He was incredible! I was awed by what this little horse could do. He placed second, and in the award ceremony was absolutely dwarfed by these two warmbloods, one on each side of him. Simply awesome!

You were at Del Mar too?

Amazing!

I don't recall seeing you there. Small world, eh?

Next time, come up and say, "Hi!"

Magician mentioned the Dutch Warmbloods. We have one who will be two years old tomorrow and she is already a little over 16 hands. She will continue to grow for about another three years. When you're around her it's hard to remember that this 1100 or 1200 pound monster is still a silly little baby until she reminds you that she is indeed still a baby.
