If you got relatives in the biz, it helps tremendously.
Example, my mom works for delta. We fly for practically free. Saves a ton of cash, plus there's a chance to sit in business class if its not full.

i haven't heard much good stuff about unions. Our employees get treated pretty decent. would hate to have a union in our place. would probably pay an extra $1.-$2. per hour but that would get eaten in Union dues, so the employees would be no better off, but our company would struggle to make $ at that point.

I think a lot of times the union leaders don't see the big picture that if they push too hard there won't be a company any more. I am sure a union would be a good thing though if the employees were getting shit on, but that probably doesn't happen that much in america any more.
IMO, union leaders (at the top, big ones like UAW) are only concerned with dues. that's IT.

Unions suck ASS. You can thank them for the (eventual) demise of GM/Ford.

If this keeps up the way it's going this will end up in politics...

Every domestic vehicle has 1400-1600 dollars in health care costs in it.

speaking of health insurance.....i am in charge of the wellness committee at my work...... around my area, all the older guys refused to participate due to either them being totally unhealthy, or some thought the information would be used against them (as if we could even see the results)..doh!

So...this year again we will have a 25% increase in our rates due to people being unhealthy..... most people where i work are overweight (including most of the office piggys).... some of them are downright OBESE!

wonder why health insurance keeps going up? ahah... plus all these stupid ing lifestyle prescriptions.... don't stop eating bacon...just pop some lipitor.....

I am all for companies offering discounts to non-smokers and people who are in the normal weight range.

People seem to think the constitution guarantees them that companies can't discriminate on these bases. HAH!

People also think that the constitution states that there must be separation of church and state...again, NO!

our problem with offering better rates to the non smokers, etc.... if I fall off of my Mt. Bike and cost $100k to fix that would suck for the smoker who has never had a claim but has to pay more than me.

Kind of a catch 22.... we haven't gone that far yet. we (the company) generally pay 80% and the employees pay 20%.... Also the company pays that 80% for individual and families..... so the family guy makes out much better than a single employee....

we have only offered HMO's the last 2 years and they have deductibles now.... offering a PPO with no deductible is INSANELY expensive now. That is all we used to offer....ahahha...

Our company is a mix of community rating and our history...mostly history though..... so every year we always have 2-3 HUGE claims from kidney's, etc.... and then just a pile of stupid stuff....

insurance is all about risk. you pay your premiums based on that.

i'm sure smoking is more dangerous in the long term than bike riding (well, except motocross, huh?).

i'm high risk now due to my kidney failure, although beforehand i was low risk.
