How do I make my computer boot faster?

Ohh, and I've gotten this to work with both XP Pro and 2000 on both Dell and IBM. The IBM was an older ThinkPad and I had to "downgrade" the bios to a really old version, but once I did that, it worked great without any problems. The Dell has worked flawlessly since I've had it (at least with hibernation - now hardware reliability has been another issue. I've certainly exercised my next day on site support contract more times than I care to remember).

Chris.

okay this has been said above, but here is exactly how to do some of it. You can search that site and look at their message boards for more info on it.

heres the link

NOTE: only problem with search is that they have a show segment called "Leo's Boot Camp" so you will get a bunch of search responses for that if you search for "boot" alone.

Edit: changed link to better suit your needs.

Load windows XP professional on it. Even on my spare 500mhz comp. it boots up faster than any other operating system I have ever seen. My 2.2ghz comp boots in under a minute.

Try BootVis. This little MS utility has cut 20-30 seconds off some of my computers boot times.

LINKY!

But honestly, I only restart my Laptop once a week. I use the hibernate state too.

Oh yeah, and Norton Anti-Virus 2004 seems to slow laptops down like no other. It runs fine on my desktop but when it was loaded on my laptop I saw it slow the start time way down. That's why I load Panda Anti-Virus on the laptop.

And I've seen Norton do this to 4 different laptops!
