Default how do u make/affect change

celebs like dicaprio advocate driving hybrids. clooney tries to call attention to the middle east, pitt to africa, etc. some effect, but not major.

staging a protest can make a fuss, but it usually just ends up inconveniencing people and alienating them.

debating with people on a personal level is usually worthless or counterproductive cuz everyone wants to be right, without actually checking to see if they are or not.

the recent shootings, plus global warming and just the state of the world all point to the conclusion that this globe is in trouble and needs to change its ways.

if you had power, money, whatever, how do u affect positive change on a massive scale? plz refrain from just saying do your part on an individual basis, cuz it's looking like the bads and beating out the goods beig time.

I would say that you start a foundation (like bill gates) then monitor the progress, advertise, live what your preach (unlike the celebs who take private jets but drive prius's) etc....

as a somewhat poor individual i have found it is damn near impossible to influence people to do shiT!!! i have tried getting people to give blood... I have actually gotten my buddy to give every 8 weeks with me, but no one else has shown any interest at all.

Same with trying to get people to live "well". I am in charge of wellness at my work and it seems like smokers and hogs want to live a misearable bloated smelly existence....

I would put money/time into educating people about various issues. Like Scot said, it's hard for people to be motivated to change or take action (whatever the cause). But I've seen people moved to action and make significant changes when they feel some kind of personal connection to it.

I'd like to put money into something like the show 30 Days and have people experience various things that would hopefully open their eyes to different sides of issues. Perhaps that personal experience would inspire them to challenge how things are and make some changes in their own lives (and possibly the lives of others around them).

Apathy is difficult to beat.

it's about education. If someones only role models are losers they'll most likely become one themselves. Education is the key.

The Inconvenience Truth was that Gore's energy bill is in the thousands per month. That's hilarious! Oh and you have Sheryl Crow and the director of the movie ambushing Karl Rove the other night. These celebs think they can do whatever they want because of their fame. They definitely get the "Just Shut-Up!" award.

The single thing that anyone can do is to try to live what they believe, and encourage others to do the same (as each person sees fit). I've noticed that the a-holes (radical or reactionary) tend to make themselves apparent when you happily help them to whatever they're getting at.
