How do you handle tailgater?
I was coming home yesterday from work driving my moms Hyundai Sonata V6 (pimp mobile) cause my brother jacked my Jetta. Anyhow, I was on the 5-North Freeway trying to merge onto the 2, I was on the far right lane and the traffic was obvioulsy going 40-50. I was traveling about 45 when this huge white truck comes out of nowhere and continually speeds up behind my car. He had a clear view of traffic ahead of me (which was I was following) , so I gently tap my breaks to warm him about the ahead traffic. This asshole precedes to highbeam beam, I was blinded because the windows are not tinted and the headlights were perfectly aligned with my rearview mirror(I have been highbeamed by Big rigs, Suburbans, and asian ladies in their SUV's, notice a pattern? Does not bother me in my Jetta cause I had that thing limo tinted)Now i understand that if it was an emergency, but it was some nuthead obviously going home in his work truck (2 freeway leads to nothing but rich peoples houses). This is one thing I cant/will not tolerate. So I moved over to the other lane and he follows me, all the while highbeaming me. So I get angry and stomped the brakes on the car, I hear his tires screeching and continues to follow me. The this same thing happened for about 3 miles. He tried passing me but the might Korean engineered V6 engineered sped up to a blistering 100mph so that he could not pass. I was extremely pissed at this asshole, I respect other people when they drive slow. I just drive around them, I never tailgate people, that's just asking for an accident. How do you S2K owners handles this?
I know the braking this was stupid, but I just cant stand being highbeamed my SUV/TRUCK drivers for no apparent reason.

I just let off of the throttle and coast. Finally when they get pissed and try to pass me I take off and they are just a speck in the mirror. btw- This would only happen if I was in the right lane. If I was in the left lane and someone came up behind me I would move over right away.
I usually move over and let tailgaters pass. There's assholes everywhere, and life is too short to bother with them all. Plus, the fact that someone's tailgating me sometimes just means that I'm driving too slow.
Besides, in So Cal, I didn't think it was that unusual for people to highbeam others - I always took it to mean "get out of my way". I don't normally do it, but I have done it on occasion to cars that are driving slow (i.e. under the speed limit) in the fast lane.
If you moved over a lane and the guy kept tailgating you, though, then that's an entirely different situation. He has issues if he did that. What I've done in those instances is one of two things. One is to let the guy pass, then get behind him and do the same thing. The other is to call up some friends (preferably with firearms) and get them to meet somewhere, then piss the tailgater off enough so that he follows, and drive to where your friends are so you can start shit. Obviously the latter is a bit extreme, but some random people have just pissed me off _that_ much. It's not the smartest thing, but it's a matter of emotion versus logic, and at a certain point, emotion takes over.

left lane I'll move over and let them pass.
if not I slow down to where I think their distance is safe for the speed and just keep at that speed till they leave or get the message.
In the past I would move over, then come in behind them and tailgate them to death. This always worked too but at some point I got tired of the extra effort and risk.

oh and for the highbeams, switch the rear view mirror down so that it doesn't go in my eyes and I can still see behind me.
I also used to highbeam them back just like tailgate them back, but ditto for why bother.

The world is full of stupid people and it's illegal for me to kill them, so usually I do the brake thing too. If they try to pass me I usually let them. Your case was different though. If I was getting beamed in the far right lane then I'd get next to a car that was going slow in the lane adjacent and keep speed with them so as to effectivly trap said a-hole. Unfortunatly that's the most you can do.
The best bet is to let those crapheads go by you because its the quickest and easiest and safest and most legal solution.

Several years ago I was going home from my fiance's (now my wife of over 23 years) house at about 1:00 in the morning. I was in the slow lane on an empty freeway in a 911S when some idiot started tailgating me. I took the car out of gear and started to coast. He stayed behind me till I got down to 15 mph (!) and finally pulled around and left. No other cars passed us the entire time he was behind me.
When I get tailgated in the station wagon, I do one of three things (since we don't have freeways here):
1) Flash my brakes
2) Reach my hand out the window and wave backwards urgently as if I had a problem with my car so they'll pass
3) If they persist... Then I check for traffic a safe distance behind us both, then lock the brakes and stand with both feet on the pedal. In Canada, if you rearend someone, the rearender is at fault, not the guy that's in front. Get a free car from his/her insurance ^__^ I've only done this twice, and both times the person following me have slammed on the brakes and lane changed and given me the finger
