What I used to do is slow down to about 15 miles per hour under the speed limit and when they tried to pass me I would gun it and not let them get by. It may be sound like something dumb to do but it kept them off of my tail.
if you are stuck behind traffic and someone does that, then them. Of course with today's whackjobs they are probably loading their pistol as you out accelerate them after slowing down....
I like to blow kisses at people who do stupid shit....they usually get really pissed off looking then.
Why? Why do they have to get so damn close to an S2000. Is it that they need to see what kind of car it is? I can almost read their minds. "Wow. What a nice car. What is it though? A mini Jag? A new Porsche?" I get tailed by everything. It doesn't matter who or what. I hate these punks in loud crappy little civics (civic nation) that have to get on my ass and want to race. If in the left lane and it is safe to do so, I move over to the right and let them go. That can be hard when there are several merge lanes streaming onto the freeway and traffic is bottlenecking in the right lane. I just don't get it. Everyone can see over our cars and see that there are stacks of cars in front of us. Where the hell do they think they are going to go? Fricken idiots! My lady says that these guys are short in the pants and that's why they have something to prove with their cars. I think she is right. Why would someone be so angry and aggressive if they were happy and getting plenty of love?

I see you live in California too.
Don't point or brandish anything that looks like or can be mistaken for a gun while you are in a car. As far as the cops and DA are concerned, you will be charged as if you had the real thing. So if you are going to carry a gun-like device in the car, you might as well carry a real gun.
BTW: Isn't it about time for nutcases on the freeways to start shooting up each other again? I noticed a freeway shooting in the news last week with a pickup. There's been quite a lull lately.
Originally posted by Kodokan_4 I live in L.A., and just about every time I look in the rear-view mirror, some a-hole is tight on my ass!...
Kodokan,
I just came back from a week in LA. I don't think the problem is the same in LA. Yes, everytime I looked back in my rear view, there was someone there within inches of my rear bumper, many times I even think that the bumper had been "kissed" by the one following.
But what the hell do you expect, traffic in LA moves at a blindingly fast 2 mph the whole time you're on the highway system there. The fast lane there is only 5 mph! Damn the 405 (both South and North bound)...and damn the 5 southbound!!!
The only thing stopping me from moving to the left coast is that the earth moves there (earthquakes), high cost of housing, and the freaking traffic!
On a side note, women in Mission Viejo and M.V. Lake, Brentwood, Hollywood, and Venice are some of the finest women I've ever seen....Miami and NYV girls are close to the quality and quantity of Cali. ......oooohhh and the women in San Diego, WOW!!!
I had this happen recently, i was in my beater though....guy slowing in front of me, I had to tap my brakes to maintain my following distance and this ass in an E class decided to flip me off because he was doing some crazy 3 lane change from the #2 lane to get off on the 805 north and passed behind me as i braked (I was on 8 west)...by qualcomm stadium for any socal folk. anyways, having time to spare because i was just on my way to the gym i decided "hey that's not cool i want to bitch him out" so i followed him onto 805 north, tailed him for a while at a safe distance but so he knew i was following, I guess it made him angry. When he sped up to 100 or so to drop me from his tail (we'd been cruising at 75) i called CHP and reported him, about 2 minutes later i saw him stopped on the side of the road just south of the 52 junction. ahh, sweet, sweet revenge.
Don't drive like a moron because it will put you at risk , but these people need to be taught a lesson or two about who to not with.
You're supposed to tap your brake lights to let them know they're following too close. I do this 2-3 times, and if it doesn't work I like to slow down to 10-20 below the limit... I only do this when there are two lanes, and they could easily just pass me on the left. Then when they finally get their shit together and try to pass me I drop a gear and go.
I had this happen to me a few months ago in the S2000. I had some lady tailgating me on the highway (I was already 10 above the limit, good enough for me... I don't like to obsessivly speed all that often)... I tapped the brake lights on about 4 occassions... I also had my brother in the passanger seat looking back at her, sticking his arms out the window as if to gesture she was a dumb ho.
But anyway, I was getting tired of her following my rear end (I couldn't see the front end of her van this whole time)... so I started coasting... I dropped my speed down to about 70 kph (speed limit was 100)... she FINALLY goes to pass me... I wait til shes at my quarter panel, then I throw it in 2nd, redline, 3rd... redline... by then shes a fair bit back...
Kind of an asshole thing to do but I hate it when people follow me too close.
The only thing I hate more than "almost" getting the hang of driving a manual transmission, are the a-holes who try to cramp your style by executing brilliant maneuvers like deciding to change 3 lanes and make a right turn only 30 feet from an intersection... cutting you off in the process.
I handle my car pretty well now, even though I'm a beginner. Things go a but unpredictably when my driving "routine" is interrupted. But not today.
He cleared my front just in time then stopped for the vehicle in front of him while I finished my panic slowdown from whatever I was doing to about 7-8 MPH.
What the hell, I haven't VTEC'd in a week and my lane was wide open... so I took off, and he had his window open as I went by. Damn that car gets loud when you rev it. Scared the shiat outta him too, he must thought a train was coming.
