It is, especially in the oil and gas business. These guys get paid by the dive and
the depth. The only problem is you only last about 10 yrs, after many decompressions (chamber time) this starts to take a toll on your major organs.
Most by that time though are supervisiors.
My uncle was a diver (I'm not sure if he welded???) in the oil & gas industry. He had an injury and his back has given' him problems ever since.

the work isn't hard at all, i just watch gauges and screw around on here, it's the logistics that scare the crap out of me, we hear stories all the time about helicopter malfunctions and crashes
beanseff, Do you work the Gulf? I have a good friend who works a rig in the Gulf, I think he works three or four weeks on, and two weeks off. He doesn't enjoy the copter rides either, but he's not a great swimmer.

6 months a year I have to work 10 hour days minimum and lots of weekends with no time off. Its very stressful.

The other six months I have very little responsibility and have to use about 8-9 weeks of paid time off from vacation and flex time earned during the busy period. That means using about a week and a half of paid time off during every month for 6 months. Any day its nice out I can just leave and the slow period occurs in the summer. I work until lunch lots of days and if it is nice, I go home and use vacation.

During the busy period though you wonder if it is worth it.

I deal with toxic chemicals in my business. I also use dangerous equiplent like high torque drill rigs and long reach excavators. I once got hit in the head by a large wrench dropped by a crew member working on a drill rig mast 10 feet off the ground. If I hadn't been wearing a hard hat, I wouldn't be around to tell this story. Safety is always the number one concern.

I just read about that. The study I read said the most common side effect of long term repeat diving was hearing loss. Most of the other common ailments among proffessional divers was speculated but not proven but I would be real careful about safety stops at low depth to decompress. I usually get a headache after coming up from a recreational dive over 50 ft.

My job has its good days and its bad days. I love the job hate the career. Usually everything is ok and the job is laid back, but when it goes bad, it goes bad quickly and could get scary. The days of gorgeous Flight Attendants are gone, the super duper high payscales are gone, but the guys I fly with are great, and the overnights can sometimes be a blast, sometimes its kinda lonely and seems to be thankless job but when all is said an done, climbing over a cloud layer to see the sunset/sunrise is pretty awesome

heres actually another picture that I took, I love to whore out (touched up a bit by Zzzziiipppyyy)

i work in IT and own a company.
on another note - i work for the city.

so if anyone knows ANYTHING about working for the government.....
there motto is -

"SIT THERE AND DONT DO ANYTHING AND LET US PAY YOU. WHEN SOMETHING WRONG HAPPENS. FIX IT"

so 90% of my day is sitting here looking out the 7th floor window at the ocean and thinking of what to buy for my car.
