for the most common police cruiser, the ford crown victoria, that is not true. i wish people would think - or at least do their homework - before they open their trap.

the civilian crown victoria's top speed is electronically governed to somewhere under 110 mph. i would guess that this is primarily so they can put cheaper tires (S-rated) on them. Even the LX sport only has T-rated tires.

here's what Car and Driver had to say about the Crown Vic "Police Interceptor" they got up to 125 mph, with the light bar mounted:

---
Top speed, however, is consider-ably better on the police car, as the civilian Crown Vic is governed at 106 mph. The Crown Vic's ability to stretch its legs, Williams says, is one reason Ford decided not to build a police-pursuit version of the cur-rent Mustang. "So many agencies told us that if we could offer them a 130-mph sedan then they wouldn't need a Mustang or a Camaro." [quote from Bob Williams, government sales manager for Ford]

Even with the drag caused by the Federal Signal Vista light bar on top, it generated substantial wind noise at speeds greater than 30 mph, and substantial attention from wary motorists during our two-week test. Our police Crown Vic topped out at 125 mph. Doff the light bar and 130 mph seems doable. Not bad for a sedan just two pounds shy of two tons."

of course it's a bad idea to try to outrun the long arm of the law, but i doubt eyescream is using this thread to devise a sinister plot to outrun the local law enforcement. i would like to believe he brought it up for academic reasons. it's fun to learn about the capabilities of other cars.

cop cars are fast enough to do double duty as cruisers and pursuit vehicles. they're fast and tough enough to catch (or at least disable) almost any car on normal roads. and when they're not, well then that's what motorola and choppers are for.

in any case, "what'll it do?" is a fair question to ask.

Somewhere around the speed of light (or radio) waves.

Whatever happens, you cannot outrun Motorola.
