Census: New Yorkers have longest commute to work
Wednesday February 25, 2004
(Washington-AP) -- It's now official. New York City residents spend the most time commuting.
The Census Bureau says the average New York City resident spends at least 38 minutes getting to work, nearly six minutes more than runner-up Chicago. Philadelphia, Riverside, California, and Baltimore rounded out the top five cities with 250-thousand or more people.
The national average commute is over 24 minutes.
The shortest commutes -- between 16 and 17 minutes --are found in Wichita, Kansas, Tulsa, Oklahoma and Omaha, Nebraska.
The census figures are from a comprehensive 2002 bureau survey and cover the one-way commuting time for workers 16 and older.

75 minutes, ballpark for my morning commute. My evening is much less, due to when I leave. It has taken as long as 150 minutes to get in because of weather, gotta love the Long Island Expressway!
