How many Asians on welfare or assisted living?
Have you ever been to Chinatown in NYC? Its not exactly a place for luxury living. I'm not sure how many people are on assisted living, but for all intents and purposes, parts of Chinatown are the ghetto. My mom's family grew up 7 to a 1 BR apartment there. I don't think they got any gov't help, but they weren't exactly living large either.
Basically, my assessment is that there are plenty of Asians on welfare, though the proportion is possibly(?) lower, as a race, than other racial or ethnic groups.
All of this is a guess and I have no evidence, anecdotal or quantitative, to back up any of my statements.

us census data, do your own homework

I can come up with some BS, and just tell people to google it if someone questions me, it doesn't make it true
Maybe out in PA where there isn't exactly a large Asian population you won't see many on welfare, but out in CA there are plenty. As said many have grown out of it and used it for what it is for, but just like anyone else there are many that take it as a free ride and also there are lots of others that work the system and still collect eventhough they have a job but they get paid in cash (and probably make decent money too).
Your coworker is about 20 years behind the times. My town, Stockton Ca, recieved many Asian refuges after the Vietman war and for years afterward. Many were on welfare when they arrived, most are productive Americans now.
In my kids' highschool (45% Asian, mostly first generation) most of the kids in the AP classes were Asian. The validictorian in my son's class, 2003, came to America when she was 10 years old at which point she spoke no English. Her speech was incredibly moving. Part of her speech was about how proud she was of her father, who at the age of 60 had just completed his bachlor's degree at the local univeristy.
Many of this older generation were in difficult circumstances in refugee camps in Thailand, or still surviving in Laos, Cambodia or Vietnam. Some went the education route and became professionals, many now own grocery stores, hair salons, or gardening services, or work as house keepers.
The Asian immigrants are the new spark of America. Just like the Scots, Irish, German, Swedish, Itailan, Chinese, Armenian, Filopino, etc in generations before.
Immigrants are hard working people. They inspire the rest of us to work harder to keep up with them. They are why America is still the most productive nation.

Old stats, somewhat relevant and I would argue probably close to what we see today:
Characteristics of AFDC recipients:
Race of parents, 1991:
Asians: 3%
Hispanics: 17%
Whites: 38%
Blacks: 39%

In the 4 years that I have had Section 8 housing, I have not ever had an Asian person call me.
Anyone know, or know how to look it up.

Asians sometimes have a saying: "They're (Asian family) rich! They must be on welfare."

According to the data I found, maybe 1/4 the Asians in America have a total household income under $27.5K, whether they are on welfare or not is none of my business.
They have a whole scandalous underground network for their other incomes.
I won't go deep into it, but let me just say that some of the Asians on welfare are actually some of the very rich, with businesses and a bunch of houses for rent, even though their surface incomes may be a few thousand bucks a year.
