Oh, and to output to DVD. I have a DVD recorder (I won it in a contest, I did not buy it.) I have it hooked up to my Tivo and can record things to it from the Tivo. It's not a digital transfer per se because the Tivo plays the recording, and the unit records it. The video is connected via s-video, but the sound is analog. No Dolby Digital.

Also an advantage of the DirecTV units is that some programs (particularly HBO) are broadcast AND recorded to Tivo in Dolby Digital.

Auto racing
Motorcycle racing
Good Eats

Misc programs that come and go and perhaps catch my fancy.

I have one TIVO receiver in the living room but I watch news etc on a small set in the kitchen. I have to walk back & forth to change the channel etc, but I heard that Radio Shack has a remote (infared) that can save me the trip. Has anybody used on of these? What is the range? Does it see through walls? (I think infared means it must be line-of-sight, right?). What's the experience out there? And Mingster, where are you?

It's an IR to RF extender. There are two "pyramids" You plug one in near the TV and one by the Tivo. Then when you want to do something while watching the small TV you point the remote at the pyramid. It converts the signal to RF and transmits it to the room with the other pyramid (and the tivo) and then it resend the IR signal.

Thanks for the info. I checked the link- it says "from any room in the house" which makes me think line of sight isn't necessary. Is that right?
