I can relate to that. I moved back in with the parents so that I can get out of grad school without massive debt. As it stands now, I'll owe only about $10k in school loans when I'm finished.

Knowing asian parents at least, that guy's mom is going to post up a copy of that article in the living room and show it to all the guests!

But seriously, I lived with my parents for 5 years after college to save money. Only problem was, every time I'd save up a decent chunk of money I'd buy a car, just to justify the lack of independence and freedom that came with living with my parents...

I hear ya...Both my brother an I live at home (I'm 20 he's 23) have no money but own awesome cars (he has an 05 GTO). It's just easier to live at home, even if my parents are charging me, I don't have to worry about property taxes, electric bills, none of that. It really is the sweet life.

I went from LWP to being a home-owner @ 22 and it couldn't have happened soon enough! I was going crazy! Yes you can drive a better car if you stay at home but, I wouldn't live with my mom again even if I got to drive a Lamborghini!!!

Like Jason, I had no desire to stick around with the parents. Even then, my folks raised me to be fiercely independent anyway (lots of summer camp and long-term stays away from them). I did come back and stayed for a year when I moved back to the Bay Area, but aside from that, I've been pretty much on my own since graduating from High School.

I go visit my 'rents once a week, and it's great.

. . . the trick is, trying to live without roommates

I've paid for my own apartment, car note, bills, insurance, etc. since I was 17. There's NO better feeling in the world than knowing you are completely independent and can survive on your own, all while getting a college education and working full time. It amazes me when some college students complain about having to work 10 hours a week at Best Buy to have spending money. Welcome to the real world buddy.

I was out of the house @ 18 and never looked back. My sister on the other hand turned 24 in May and still lives at home, has no car and has never had a driver's license.
