How many prescriptions do you have?
It is renewal time soon where I work. Last year we got a 30% increase. This year *only* a 11.2% increase.
It seems like everyone just wants more prescriptions.
Our number 1 expense for prescriptions was for cholestorol drugs....number 2 was for mental (mike tyson Zoloft and it's partners)... WTF is wrong with America....or is the rest of the world like america?
Everyone wants the easy way out......pills, more pills...give me pills....I WANT PILLS!!!!......
I have 1 prescription for Allegra (allegery medicine) that i get filled 2 times per year and I take about 4-6 advil per month on average....but I don't just sit around and eat chips and smoke cigs all day.

ProGraf--anti rejection drug 2mg twice a day (~$600/month without ins this one is a must have)
Ursodiol--disolves crystals in billiary tree 600mg twice a day(~120/month)
Atenolol--Blood Pressure 50mg once a day(This is a cheapie...~$12/month)
Protonix--Gastro-instestinal 40mg once a day(over $100/month)
Allegra 180--Allergies 180mg once a day(~$125/month)
Fortunately my co-pay for all of this is only 65.85 per month.

On the other hand, if everyone who were on medications were actually compliant, I'd surmise that there would be a lot less visits to the hospital. What do you think would happen to the costs of healthcare if people with diabetes, hypertension, schizophrenia, etc weren't on meds?

Ahhh I think people would be more compliant with meds if the side effects weren't so awful (I'm thinking more about meds prescribed for major mental illnesses, since I don't know about the other stuff).

Obviously if I were her son i would probably think differently....but geez.... pumped full of shit to do nothing!

The drugs that I take have some side effects, but to me I can deal with them to live. The ProGraf (anti-rejection drug that I will have to take for the rest of my life) gives me the shakes...it's especially noticeable when I am holding something small or thin, like a sheet of paper or a business card.
Right after I left the hospital I was taking so many drugs, that I had to take drugs to counter the adverse effects of another one. The worst drug initially was the Prednisone...I became a ranting lunatic at the slightest thing, I'd yell and scream at you if you looked at me wrong, then I'd cry and 5 minutes later everything was fine. I'm glad I'm not on that anymore. I had to take a stool softener, because one of the drugs would harden up my stool so that I was literally shitting bricks. When I got off of a sulfa based antibiotic a week later I got a case of the itchies that wouldn't stop, it felt like a million little fires all over me, my feet and hands were the worst.
Like I said earlier the only bad side effect I am having now is a slight shakyness and I can live with that.
