How much $$ do gas stations make per gallon?
this new gas station just opened in town and they are at $3.19 for regular but all of the other stations around are at $3.25.
just for shits, i didn't know if you all knew on average how much a gas station makes on each gallon they sell?

pennies/gallon from what I've heard.
In Canada they actually have a little sticker with a pie chart on the pumps that indicates the breakdown of gas prices. Here is a graphic of the sticker that they have:

Again, this Canada though.
yeah i heard its not alot... my dad's friend used to own a gas station here in northern california... actually she owned a couple of gas stations. she gets her gas from the same refinery as chevron but she's able to charge much cheaper because she doesnt have that price dictation. she said the profit was about 12 or 17 cents to the gallon
12-17 is significantly higher than industry average, perhaps that has something to do with cali's significantly higher overall fuel costs as soon as you cross the border.
My father's friend is a top consultant for Exxon, the gas stations make 3-5 cents a gallon, 99% of their revenue is from people coming inside and buying junk that the station makes 100-300% profit on.
If you shun away a bunch of people because you were charging a few cents extra a gallon, which is common, you are trading 50 cents in profit from gas for several dollars of profit from the guy that comes in, gets a candy bar, and gets a soda, which many if not most people do these days.

A side note, our local costco has refilled tanks 3-6 times/ day. Each truck holds 9000 gallons.

You really think they make only a few hundred dollars for everything 10,000 gallons they sell? I'm not so sure about that...
