Default how much do newspaper delivery people make?

My newspaper is delivered by a lady who is about 40 years old...she drives a dodge omni (pos).

The paper is $.45 per day for home delivery. Assume she gets $.15? if she had 200 papers to deliver.... that would be $30.00.... less the cost of gas and insurance on her car. Maybe she gets $.25 per paper? even then that would only be $50.00 per day.

Is that really worth it? it would take way longer than an hour to delivery all of those papers...plus she puts them in bags most of the time....plus the paper is at my door by 6:00am most days.....

so...shitty hours, shitty pay..... why would anyone delivery papers?

Maybe next time you see her you could ask her.

Maybe she's desperate for money. Maybe she's actually losing money on it and doesn't realize it. Maybe she has a mental illness/disability that prevents her from doing many other jobs. Maybe she's actually loaded and just wants something to do with her spare time.

I try to give them a decent tip at x-mas. I can't imagine them making more than a few $ after paying for gas, depreciation, insurance, etc....

I knew a husband and wife team in Orlando that each had routes. They said it paid pretty well and they lived in a fairly nice home.

My co-worker's son does it, and it pays around $40 a week. He makes most of his money in tips at the end of the year.

I doubt they buy a car just for the route. And the route probably only takes 1/2 a gallon to do.

When I was 12(in 92), I did my route in 30-40 minutes(on bike) and made between $100-$200/month. Much more than I needed at the time.

I delivered papers for a couple of summers in college. The hours definitely do suck. And to be honest, I can't remember how much I got paid. I delivered around 130 to 150 papers each morning. Saturdays really suck due to the Sunday inserts! And when it rained, it sucked too!

I'm thinking I got about $150 a week. I really can't remember. Just to give you perspective, I delivered the Philly Inquirer. Most of the time I woke up between 3 and 3:30 in the morning. Did the route, got home around 6. Showered, then went off to my co-op job. That became a long day.

But it all depends on the amount of papers. A couple of people had large territories and really were bringing in some good money. Probably about 60k.

i did deliver the sunday paper for less than 1 year in about 10th grade. I would get up at 4:00am and be done by about 6:30am... i think I had maybe 80 papers.... i made maybe $.25 each.??? so $20.00 per week.... wooooottt...

I don't get how any adult would make $ that is worth while doing it? they must pay the delivery person more $ than before.?

I used to deliver the paper when I was 7. I made $500 over an entire summer. I decided to change careers.
