I've been operating on 4-5 hours of sleep for the past 8 years. It is probably the most unhealthy part of my life right now. I end up working for like 12-14 hours/day, so by the time I work out and eat, it's already past midnight. Since I eat so late, I don't get to sleep until 2-ish. I usually get up at 7 am and get to work around 8 am and start the cycle over again. I can really feel the lack of sleep catching up to me. It was ok for the first 4 years (in college) because I could nap during the day. Now I struggle to stay sharp at work. I'm pretty much anti-caffeine, but have started drinking coffee like once or twice/week.

Yeah, 8 hours of sleep would be nice.

Working out before bed isn't always a good idea since it increases your heart rate and can give you issues trying to nod off properly. I definitely sleep better when I do cardio during the day but I work out 4-5 times a week and my sleep is still ordinary. I probably get about 5 hours a night and I'm pretty tired lately so I'm trying to change my patterns and force myself to go to bed at 1030 instead of 12.

I've been told by a trainer that going to bed late can trigger a release of some chemical which increases your fat storage around your mid-section and you should take vit c and magnesium to combat it.

Maybe it's time for a new mattress? If you're feeling unrested when you wake up, you're not getting the correct support when you sleep
What no plug koala? Where's your mattress av?

a routine is more important than how many hours each night. Getting up at the same time every day, regardless of when you went to bed, makes you feel less tired. Your body adapts to the schedule, and "expects" to be awake and active at this time. That doesn't mean you can get by on 3 hours every night, just that a few nights of 5 or 6 hours sleep aren't going to affect you much if you always get up at 6.

You know, they say that one good night of about 6+ hours sleep is enough to restore you to good as new. I don't know who "they" are, but I'm sure they said it.

I get right at about 8 hours a night, except weekends, when I get a good 11-12 hours (of course, the first 6 hours of that is recovering from an alcohol induced coma).

Probably not much point in promoting my mattress chain since we don't have stores where this guy is

haha yeh good stuff guys

I do follow a normal routine. Lift weights 5-6 times a week after work then I do 30min of cardio after the weights. Get home eat as much protein, lean meat as much calories I can stuff then I just relax. I have no trouble going to sleep as soon as I close my eyes but yes I do wake up in the middle of the night some nights of the week!!

Sometimes at 3am or 5am sometimes at 7am and it takes a bit (10-15)for me to go back to sleep when its dark. It can take up to 30min if there is light or sun outside. I dunno why I wake up in the middle of my sleep.....My matress is comfy but I just got out of grad school so can't buy anything new until I get settled.
