This is a conversation overheard on the VHF Guard (emergency) frequency 121.5 MHz while flying from Europe to Dubai. The conversation went like this:

Iranian Air Defense Radar: "Unknown aircraft you are in Iranian airspace. Identify yourself."

Aircraft: "This is a United States aircraft. I am in Iraqi airspace."

Iranian Air Defense Radar: "You are in Iranian airspace. If you do not depart our airspace we will launch interceptor aircraft!"

Aircraft: "This is a United States Marine Corps FA-18 fighter. Send 'em up, I'll wait!"

Iranian Air Defense Radar: no response .... total silence.

 

I have a feeling this isn't a real account, just as the aircraft carrier and the lighthouse story was claimed to be real.

No one should be naive enough to believe this is real. If you invade some country's airspace, they will send up interceptors (usually in teams) regardless of who you are or what aircraft you have. They will not stay silent about it. And when they are up there, they will try to escort you out of their airspace, and only will engage if you refuse. That's how the real world works, not like this Top Gun-like arrogance.

 

I enjoyed it. I don't think anyone on here took the supposed exchange seriously and it was meant as a joke. Considering Iran has about 36+ Chinese Chengdu J-7B aircraft that are less than stellar ( when operational) they won't be escorting anyone out of Iran.

 

They also have a BUNCH of Migs. I suppose YOU know everything about Iran's arsenal? Anyone would be a complete fool to think Iran only has a few Chinese planes.

Oh, they also have American F-aircrafts too.
