how would you start a new life?
get a cabin in the rockies really far away from people. buy a good rifle and lots of ammo. sit on your secluded cabin porch and shoot animals that walk by for your dinner.
move back into the city life after 2-3 years and you'll feel fresh again.

thats not enough money to be life changing. id pay off half of a house loan, pay all of siblings' tuition, and throw the rest in a closet for a rainy day. (like when it rains porsches).
and then proceed with life as normal. breathe a little easier because mortgage is cut in half.

did you rob a bank and don't know what to do with the money?
I would invest (open up) in some sort of business. If you want to get out of the country, you've got enough money to re-settle. I would just research and travel.

Belize looks really nice for a long getwaway. We'ere thinking about costa Rica. Maybe Belize might be a good alternative or both.
for those that mentioned. Trust me, I know how little money I have. absolutely no reason to rub it in. lol I'm just burned out and need a break. the idea about living in the mountains and killing dinner everyday has already gone through my mind. I've even bought a 30 06 recently and have wanted to get back in touch with the wild. I've gone through chicks, thought about getting a porsche this year, but I'm just so finicky about where I wanna go with life... I also don't know if its me getting older but I just can't stand all the fakeness all around me. maybe I need to go get spiritual guidance from the monks in china or something. lol
thanks for all the input guys.

i think you will be bored out of your mind if you plan to just hang out.... something like GPMike suggested would be the way to go.... somewhere you like, doing something you like..... and if it all works out, you will make $...
I have no idea how 'retired' people get by in an average day unless they have a bunch of retired friends.... doing shit all day by myself would be boring as hell....

Why not do something like Peace Corps?
You get to "get away." But instead of working your ass off for coin, you'll do it for a sense of fulfillment and knowing that you helped people less fortunate than yourself.
It's the pointlessness of slaving away for the almighty buck that burns people out. Get a taste for adding a little philanthropy.
That way, when you're ready to rejoin the "civilized" world, you'll have a bridge to getting work that is both meaningful and that pays the bills.
Your $500k will multiply in the meantime as well.
Win-Win.
