Default Howard Stern thrown off air!

He was thrown off today by the FCC for criticizing them too much Sometimes this country really has its priorities up its ass. He is entertainment and thats it, so whats the problem. He says the word thrust or breast too much. What a joke. I'm pretty pissed and don't know what i'll be listening to in the morning to keep me awake. I'm sure he'll be back soon or go to satellite radio for a major contract.

I just read that on the Roadrunner main page

Even though his program doesn't air in Houston, I don't think he should be taken off the air. I watch his show every weeknight on E and sure somethings may seem offensive to some, but to others it is what the show is meant to be, entertainment. If a listener doesn't like what they're hearing they can just change the station.

"under FCC rules and federal law, radio stations and over-the-air television channels cannot air material containing references to sexual and excretory functions between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m., when children may be tuning in. The rules do not apply to cable and satellite channels and satellite radio."

Most likely kids would be tuning in to a station when they are in the car. Kids can't drive meaning an adult will be in the car with them. If the material being broadcast is offensive or inappropriate for the kid simply change the station.

I'm not completely sure, but I think his show was only dropped by stations owned by Clear Channel Communications. They own a shitload of tv and radio stations nationwide.

It was only Clear Channel that took him off the air and they only own like 6 stations that broadcast him.

This whole thing is rediculous. I'm pretty conservative, but the religous right drives me freaking nuts

Howard Stern is kind of a jackass. I don't feel bad for him one bit. It's not that I don't like him, it is that his entire schtick is based on his rep as a "shock jock." What is lamer than "strippers" on a radio show? Please. That crap-hole Madcow in Chicago is even more irritating, with none of the intelligence or taste (ha, can't believe I am writing that). Take him off the air, please.

Howard Stern is smart enough to know how to stay on the air. He has been doing this for how many years? If he crossed any line, it was knowing full well what was going to happen. Sign your petitions, but the man makes lots of money as a radio host. I don't think he really needs your charity to get by. It's not like he isn't going to work again :/

edit:
As a prior poster mentioned, you can say anything you want between 10 and 6 in the morning. If he was really restricted by FCC rules, he could get a late night show, and make less money. Even so, if a community files a petition, a radio station can lose its license to broadcast. If people really don't like his show, they can sign a petition to have it taken off the air in their area. They are our airwaves, and if we don't exercise the right, why have it? If religious right groups successfully removed a show they found offensive, go religious right! I don't agree, but hey, it's a free country.
