Default I am trying to gain weight, but I'm losing weight

2 weeks ago I bought a Bowflex and started working out with the hopes of bulking up a little bit. I'm 6' 3", when I started I weighed 167 pounds, but now, 2 weeks later, I'm down to 163 pounds. Since I've started, I've changed my diet. I'm eating 5 small meals, I'm getting about 2100-2200 calories a day, ~45 grams of fat and 120-130 grams of protein. I think I'm doing everything right, but I'm not seeing the results I'd like to see. Should I just keep doing what I'm doing, and give it more time, say 3 months? Or am I doing something wrong?

Kick your protein intake up to at least 170 grams. You want 1 to 1 1/2 grams of protein per pound of bodyweight.

Eat More....2100-2200 is not nearly enough, heck I eat that on a slow cut, if you're looking for massive weight gains I'd eat upwards of 3000 calorie, 2600-2800 for moderate gains.

The bow flex isn't the greatest thing for putting on weight either, you need heavy weight with low rep counts, focusing on the Squat, Dead lift and Bench Press.

Don't take this the wrong way, but you are clueless. Either do a lot more reading or seek professional help from someone who knows what they are doing. You are closer to cutting than bulking. You need 3k+ calories a day.

People struggle to eat such a small amount of calories. I know I eat more than that, and I'm maintaining my weight.

As everyone has said, (and not to be harsh) but your starting completly wrong.

Sparknotes = eat lots, lift heavy, and eat even more.

your first mistake was the blowflex, they are completely worthless unless you are just trying to maintain or lose weight. the only thing you can really do on those things is high reps as I'm sure there isnt much weight invlolved in the rubber band things.

Rule of thumb is, if you are at a place in your bulkness that you like, it will take one gram of protein for every pound of body weight to maintain that look, if you want to gain bulk, you will need to double that amount or even more. They do make a weight gaining protein mix that give you 1000+ calories per scoop plus givign you the 50 grams or so of protein.

Do your research, join a real gym, even if it is Planet Fitness(just don't make any noise when you lift or they will ask you to leave) and if necessary hire a personal trainer for a spell.

http://www.wannabebig.com/forums/showthrea...-The-Bako-Shake

I am using this 1st post from the attached thread.

The Bako Shake

Don't have any protein powder? Don't wanna spend hundreds of dollars on weight gainers? No worries.

This is my shake recipe. It helped me gain 15+ lbs in one month.

2,500 calories / 100g of protein

1 cup peanut butter
3.5 cups milk
1 cup vanilla ice cream
2 tbsp olive oil

There you have it. A day's worth of calories in one shake.

Comes out to about 40 ounces.

It's not that bad. A cup of peanut butter scares a lot of people. If you wanna be a wuss about it, try 1/2 a cup.

It's about as thick as a McDonalds milk shake.

Don't try drinking it all at once. You'll probably die.

That shake will cost as much if not more than a mass gainer...unless your buying from GNC,even than the price won't be much different.

Plus you body won't benefit from that much protein at one time.

Obviously the OP has a very limited knowledge of such things, so personally I wouldn't recommend any mass gainer for this guy, as that stuff is for people who are lifting 1.5 hours+ a day , 4-5 times a week and know what they are doing,

Sure you can put on 30-40lbs in 6 months using that stuff, but unless you know what your doing, you'd be lucky if 10lbs of it was muscle gain.

There is no reason you can't take in 3k+ calories and 170+ grams of protein from just food alone.

I think I'll be adding a 6th meal and drink a protein smoothie. I'm not going to do anything crazy like those 2500 calorie shakes. I'm thinking a packet of whey protein (25-30 grams), some fruit and some soymilk, should be good for 30-35 grams of protein plus another 2-300 calories. This should bring my daily calorie intake up to 2500 calories.
