Cool I don't wanna sink...

I'm embarrassed to say that I'm a grown man who doesn't know how to swim. How hard is it to learn and how long would it take to comfortably swim by myself in deep waters? And where? Suggestions and answers will be appreciated.

Oh, anyone else here doesn't know how to swim too?

Is there a public swimming pool near you? I'm sure they offer lessons for adults as well as children. Outdoor pools won't be doing it this time of year, but if you have an indoor pool nearby, they might.

Oh, and IMHO, you shouldn't be swimming in deep waters without a lifejacket of some sort (although I often snorkel in deep water without a lifejacket, but generally with a swimming buddy). You never know when the unexpected will occur (fatigue, cramp, whatever).

YMCA's offer swimming lessons, and it's never too late to learn.

how the hell can't you know how to swim? Honestly if you go into the water do you just sink to the bottom like a rock? does this mean that you can't tread water?

If i never climbed a ladder i wouldn't walk up to it flale about like an idiot and say i've never had ladder climbing lessons.

My dog who's never seen more water than in her dog bowl ran into a lake... when the water got deep she stopped, began to sink (and assume) thought when i move my leg like this it keeps me from dieing so i'm going to continue to do that until my paws are back on terra firma...

You big meany - My mum cant swim and she's in her 60's. Some people just never get the chance to swim, or learn to swim. I know for a fact that when my mam was younger, they didnt even have a luxury of a public swimming pool near by.

I guess it depends on how you grew up and stuff.

I can swim really well and consider myself a strong swimmer. However, in really deep water...i shit myself...because I feel uncomfortable not knowing whats underneath me. After all there are many things we dont know about the deep blue.

If I were you dude, I'd get lessons at a local pool if you can. I wouldn’t be embarrassed...I know lots of people who can’t swim

My public high school required seniors to be able to swim 100 meters in order to graduate.

It's definitely never too late. Like others have said, check your local YMCA.
