There has been a lot of discussion in my contry about this Snow convention which was supposed to be helt here the first week of March. My goverment was basically looking for legal ways to ban these people from entering the country, even though they were just coming here as tourists with no intention to break the Icelandic law. Now, the organisers have decided to cancel the convention.

Few years back, we had a group of peaceful protesters coming here to protest the visit of Li Peng to Iceland. They were just going to throw up some banners and remind people that this man ordered the mass killings of Chinese students on Tiananmen Square back in '89. My goverment prohibited them to enter the country and sent them back by force.

Just before Li Peng came (if I remember correctly it was back in 2001), I actually had a short conversation with our president at his residents about this visit. I told him I didn't think it was morally right to welcome Li Peng here since the Tiananmen massacre was exclaimed against all over the world. He rationalised this by talking about important business relations between the two countries. I was only seventeen or so and he got pretty pissed when I asked him about this so I quickly changed the topic. Later, I've come to realize, I should have st***** that m*********** in the back while I had the change

What exactly is the Snow convention.

 

It's a double edged sword as you know. The thing is that the Chinese growing economy will be very good for your Country to do business with. It's kind of like the US. Even if we are enemies with someone, we'll buy their oil because we need it and we'll sell them food because they need it. Money talks.

Not sure about this whole snow gathering thing but kudos to you for standing up and protesting against China. I was born in the country in which China has more than 800 miles pointing directly at us. Talk about being bad neighbors.
