Fox News is reporting that someone locked himself in the bathroom of the flight that crashed in PA and used his cellphone to report the hijacking.

The Solicitor General for the US's wife was on board the flight in Washington. She too called him and asked what to do.

How could they have possibly shot down the planes? There really isn't any anti aircraft weaponry anywhere close enough to have done that in time. Plus, no one would have expected a hijacked plane to head straight into the side of the WTC. Usually hijacker will sit around for a while and try and get some demands met.

I am pretty sure that the airspaces around Manhatten and Washington DC are among the most restricted in the US. That would have given them some idea.

I would also think that there is the capability to shoot something down if you have enough time. The challange is that since the came from Boston they would have been there considerably faster than anyone would have expected.

Also, I would imagine the everyone thought that the first airline as an accident and not intentional which would have delayed any preparation to attack the rest.

Just one of those things. It is unfortunate. It wouldn't surprise me if the plane in PA met with some "malfunction", especially after they were told that it was hijacked.

Obviously this is all just speculation. Nobody will know for sure for some time.

Another thing you have to think about is security at the airport. How did these people manage to get weapons on the planes??
Fox and CNN showed the radar tracks. The planes started out on course, then veered off to make the attacks. Maybe the terrorists claimed engine problems or navigation problems...in any case, the FAA is not going to shoot down a plane for flying to NY.

The weapons were box cutters. The one I used in high school was a razor blade mounted inside a flat, rectangular holder about 1" by 3". I don't know how you can prevent something like that from getting on a plane.

box cutters.??? WTF!!! I guess had any of the people on board known the fate, they would have just ganged up and made an attempt to beat the Hi-Jackers. No one would ever expect to be hi-jacked into a suicide mission though!

What a shitty day!

They would not had time to scramble a fighter jet to shoot the 2nd plane.......15 minutes between the crashes. 1 hr later the Pentagon and the PA crash(or shot down?)
