Default I have no explanation for this...

I have lived in Chicago for 5 1/2 years and I see this sign at various intersections around town. I have seen one other that says "Oncoming Traffic Has Longer Green" which took me a while to figure out, but the reason for it is when people hang out in the middle of the intersection turning left, they will get stuck out there and their light will be red, etc.

But this one I have not been able to figure out. I have asked friends, no one knows. What are your ideas as to what this could possibly mean??

i guess that means you can ignore that person in uniform at that intersection and have a great excuse..."but your honor, the sign said...and the light was green so..."

I would assume that the sign must be to remind folks in an intersection that there are many signals lights to pay attention and make sure they are following the proper signal? thats my guess.

It probably means only pay attention to your signal, because a lot of people tend to look at the signal that's perpendicular to them and try to get a head start, like a lot of people do. How some people roll forward.

LOLOLOL!! I grew up in Chicago. I forgot about those damn signs. They are all over the place. I think it actually means; "Don't be a jerk".

You can't put up signs that say stuff like; "If you speed and change lanes frequently, you are an *sshole". Or, "Don't be an *sshole and run this light, you moron!" So, instead, they do these signs.

That's MY guess. Funny post tho, I don't think I've ever seen this sign in cali or florida, or other places I've lived for awile.

Naa, driving habits are just another sign of the disintegration of society. Personally, I think people are in their "natural *sshole eco-system" when inside their own car. They can treat people exactly how they would if there were no filters on their personalities and no rules in life (and, as there is NO enforcement of laws on the roads there are no rules, that's for sure).

So, as the *ssholes push the limits of the laws and the driving get more Darwinist, the *sshole win again. Just life.

Is there a curb between the lanes through the intersection that prevents left turners from entering the right lane on the cross street as they turn left? If so the sign is telling you to obey only the signal above the lane you're travelling in as the left lane may have a red light while the right lane has a green. You should only see this at a "T" intersection.
It is a good way to move 50% more traffic through an intersection because only the people in the left lane(s) have to stop during most signal cycles. The only time the right lane gets a red signal is when a pedestrian hits the button to cross.
