I just received $1000 dollars...now what?
open an e-trade account and play the volatile stocks
It's a shame when someone does this with their house payment or kids college savings but if you "found" this cash...you got nothin to lose.
I never thought I would get into it but if you start out small ($1000 !), build a separate portfolio (separate from your 401k/IRA etc...), and don't trade on margin the risk is quite minimal.

I'm with the other guys and would keep it for a rainy day. If you really feel the need to spend it though, I would do something like use it to travel and expand your horizons instead of drowning them with beer and greasy food (assuming that you're into that kind of thing that is).
Wow, looks like my drunken advice has proven useful (speaking of throwing money away). I'm still pushing for putting that money away for now (unless you have other, high-interest debt to pay off first). Good luck.
