I lose my job all the time!
In keeping with the current trend of folks who seem to be losing their jobs, I just wanted to chime in that I lose my 'job' all the time and I wouldn't have it any other way!
Time off, great income, great projects, what more could you ask for? Any of you newly displaced folks considered going independent?

thought about it, but I'm too lazy for being independent at this time. how long have you been independently contracting for?
as for my current employment status, they said to me the other day: we have enough for you and the other two developers until the end of the year and then we'll have to see what we have coming in at the time.
thus, this translates to, a job until the end of the year - now that is job security! at least these days it is!

I've been on my own for close to 6 years.
I met with Allstate this morning and they gave me the project. They are saying it will last through the end of Q3 NEXT year...
Looks like I have more "job" security than you do, Schatten!
I start a week from Monday...

I retired ten years ago and my accountant told me if I could get at least a 6% return on my existing nest egg, given my current lifestyle I wouldn't run out of money until 2040 (I'll be 93!). Even with the market sucking, I've been able to beat the 6%. Screw the heirs (I have no children), I'm spending the money!
