I lose my job all the time!
Greg,
Just like you, I also lose my job since I'm a consultant also.
That gig you landed with Allstate is pretty long. Nothing better than having a long term contract to work on. I've been landing a few 2 to 3 man month contracts. It would be nice to be working on a long one again.
Good luck with the new client.

I got laid off almost eleven years ago and started my own company. I've never looked back, but I laugh out loud every time my former employer pays me more to do projects now than when I was on staff!
Besides, I really like deciding which 16 hours a day I want to work.

Greg ... in Australia a lot of independant consultants and project managers leave jobs at the 6-9 month mark. They do this because they would otherwise lose some of the tax benefits normally associated with working for oneself. Apparently the Guvmint decide that if you receive more than 80% of your income from one source you are deemed to be 'working' for someone else, i.e. not yourself.
Does this happen in the US too?
