I need a vacation!!
Well here it is 4:12 in the F'ing AM and I'm at work fighting with the software I'm writing and loosing horribly. I've been at it for 18 hours now and accomplished squat. Tomorrow/today/Monday is the day the CEO flies in from VA to inspect the finished product I'm supposed to deliver in about 4 hours. Lord have mercy on me

C3 do what I do in that situation.
Tell them there was a hardware problem
and then create one
-or-
don't you have any contracters you can blame
seriously my philosophy is nobody dies and the worst that could happen is they fire you and you have to get a job somewhere else making more money.

The answer is to get a superstar product manager to demo the product and make it look perfect. It's amazing what a controlled environment can accomplish!
Believe me, I've been in that situation and had to do the demo...in front of 2,400 people at Comdex. The software barely worked. We had the R&D team with us in Vegas making changes all night long.

Thaaat's right, you guys fake your way through the demo and then let all the poor schmos out in the real world do the beta testing. Seriously, I hope you get it ready in time. Just, remember, they can't eat you or kill you (can they?).

lvs2K,
Let's think about this. You goto a car show, you see a car like the SSM. It's a concept. Looks great but under that great sheet metal is a product that is not quite finished. It overheats, the build quality is not quite right, etc. etc. It's just a demo model to drum up interest. The finished product will be much better and perform as expected.
Now, let's compare this to software. Just read over the paragraph above. It ain't much different.
You want to show people progress, in fact, they demand it. Sometimes you have to show stuff that is not ready yet. However, the concept is true and you need to communicate this.
This scenario is repeated in all walks of life. Dating, electronics, kids, all kinds of technology, etc. It's really not that different.
