If Americans haven't tried netflix yet...
Netflix sounds great and has gotten a lot of praise..so if you're still renting from Blockbuster or any chain, i'd reccommend giving this a try.. Unlimited rentals up to 3 movies at a time.. No Late Fees.. u can keep them as long as you want and send them back at your leisure.. And when you return the 3, you get another 3 sent to you (doesn't cost you anything to return the movies.. already prepaid envelope).. I think the only hitch is you have to make a wishlist, and they periodically send you movies from that list.. but most should eventually be available if not right away.. and for 17 bucks/month.. That's like equivalent to 5 new movie rental from the Blockbuster.. So if you're a movie buff or have lots of spare time, give it a try

I was just looking into this. I guess if you rent 4 or more movies each month, NetFlix does pay. Plus, you avoid all the aggrevation at Blockbuster.....which I seem to get every time I go there!
Had netflix and was annoyed by the wait to rent also some arrived damaged so you couldn't view them. Have the unlimited deal at BB for $26/mo. You rent two at a time and no return requirement. Our local BB is great in what they have in stock at any given time.

i still think blockbuster is only good for people who only rent new releases of movies that were played in the theaters. after 1 month with blockbuster, i literally ran out of stuff to rent and impatiently wait for each tuesday when they have something new on the shelf.
With Amazon.com possibly moving into the sector, Netflix lowered it's price to $17.99 from a recent raise of $21.99 just 6 months ago. Blockbuster has an online service in addition to its in-store movie pass. Their online deal is $17.49 a month for 3 out at a time and, as a kicker, you get 2 coupons for free rentals in-store as well.
Now for the rumors. Blockbuster is lining up for a way to move the movies out to peoples doors faster by using existing inventory in stores in close proximity to the customers that ordered rather than using just warehouses. Netflix is a possible target for actually being bought out by Amazon rather than being their competior.
The facts are that although it is a universal belief that the online market will be the fastest growing segment for the buisness, both companies stock, Netflix and Blockbuster, is in the gutter. Also, just last week Nigel Travis, BBV's COO, resigned from his position. It is said that he wants to seek a CEO position, and with BBV CEO John Antioco just signing a 5 year extention with the rentailer, it won't be with BBV. Are there other motives behind the move? Possibly. Hmmmm.

There was a thread over on www.avsforum.com about Netflix and Wal-Mart last week. Apparently if you delete any Netflix cookies from your machine, go to Wal-Mart's DVD rental site, then go to Netflix, you sometimes get the $17.99 offer for $15.99. See avsforum for the details...
No, I didn't do this. I live 2 mins from Blockbuster.
