If I lost my job today I would have savings for...
Just curious how long people could live (aka pay their bills) if they lost their job. A recent unofficial CNN poll showed 33% of people had no savings whatsoever
For me, it would be 2-3 years before savings ran out or had to make an adjustment to my lifestyle.

maybe 2 months.
That is of course if I sat on my fat ass and did not find another job.
If you lost your job with no recourse to find another job then some kind of I Am Legend scenario must have occured.
My answer to this thread title is "I would find my ass another job, pronto."

I don't have any substantial "savings." But, I do have some money in my retirement accounts. Before I dig into those, I'd be selling the S2000 and my house, though. That should give me enough liquidity to last about a year or so.

i am not sure in my situation... i have all of my $ tied up in the company i work for, a real estate trust and my rental crapholes..... so I really don't keep much "cash" laying around.... my truck is paid off so I guess I could just sell it or get a loan on it if i needed cash.
don't forget how expensive health insurance is once you are on Cobra... it gets damned expensive... probably $1200+ a month for a family....

Swiss govt would pay me 75% of my current salary for up to two years (unemployment pay), so not too worried.
But I would definitely go out and look for a new job asap. I could live just fine on savings and that income and maintain my current lifestyle during those two years.
