Thus the chess match of cracker vs satellite company. By 'blow them up', he means the sat co can send a signal through the dish which basically scrambles the software within the card, requiring it to be reprogrammed to match the new codes. No real harm is done to the card. If you really know what you're doing you can keep getting it with occaisonal interruptions, if you don't know what you're doing you keep paying someone who does.
For cable, it's simple. There are alot of places that you can purchase descrablers. I have a 'friend' that has my... uh... his descrambler that he picked up for $225 about a year and a half ago. Since that time, we... I mean he pays for basic cable ($13 a mo.) and gets about 150 channels including all of the Pay Per View movies/events.
The 'smart cards' for satellites work pretty well but after they fried mine the second time, I went another route. There is a separate box with it's own card that I have that attaches in front of the receiver itself. Since I have done this, I have had no issues (ie. the card being fried) and I have been this way for about 6 months now.

Not true. Mine wasn't hooked to a phone line for a long time. They would just send
me friendly reminders. The phone is mostly for pay per view stuff.
And you can wire a PC(300 intel or better) to the box with only a 3.5 floppy drive and
get all the channels. I've seen it done and whenever Direct TV tries to fry the card the

I have a H card receiver and last week it stopped getting half of the channels. I bought a ppv movie last year and it has never had the phone line hooked up for the past 2 years. I think I may have to hook the phone line up. The last time I checked the H cards were the only ones that could be programmed with a computer. On the positive side, the picture quality was vastly improved on the channels I did receive.
integrate, Who is your friend's Dad. I used to work for DIRECTV so I might know him. PM me with his name.
I used to have one of those gold cards at work. In my office, I had a TV with the DSS box and a gold card in it. I could watch every channel that we offered.

My friend's dad is one of the vice presidents for the satellite tv company DSS and one day he came home with the "smart card" and my friend and I got to try it out.
