I'm thinking of getting... dare I say it... a Mac! eek!

Default I'm thinking of getting... dare I say it... a Mac! eek!

I am really really getting tired of all the bullshit associated with Windows. I am self taught when it comes to computers, from before 3.1, and XP is just breaking my balls one too many times.
I hate having to uninstall and reinstall programs, I hate all the viruses and spyware / adware. Before someone says Macs get viruses to, I already know this, but not on the level of windows, i.e. every few weeks.
My latest problem is Windows media player 9, it asks me every-other-time I click on a movie, my preferences for install. What!?!, I installed it weeks ago and it worked fine. I change my defaults to Real Player, and it overwrites this and comes back with the same question (how annoying is this? Very, I have to re-start or log off all the time, or it will ask me my settings, I hit okay, and the same window pops up, and again... and again).
I know all about fixing Windows, but I shouldn't have to. I dont think XP should have had the multiple user interface, becasue it seems that it is not ready.
I still plan on building a PC and using Windows or Linux on it, but as a primary computer this piece of shit operating system just isn't cutting it.

My major issue that is stopping me from switching, Macs are just soooo damn expensive (2 large without a monitor).

I plan on building a gaming machine (although I dont game as much as I used to, and the costs of the system I have designed are right around $2100, with a 19" flat panel).

Someone please stop me from doing the "Switch" or at least someone comment on how hard it is, (I taught myself linux commands in a few weeks, so I am guessing Mac stuff will come pretty easily.

My next computer is going to be a Mac as well. A Powerbook. My current computer runs Windows 2000, and I haven't been having any problems with it. I'm just switching for the sake of learning something new.

The only thing missing from Macs that's available on Windows (that I use) is CVS shell integration. But I doubt that's going to be an issue for most people.

A Mac gaming system isnt ideal because many games never see Mac or take longer to be released.

If you get to know windows properly you shouldnt run into the issues you mentioned, especially with viruses.

I think Macs are great. Honestly if I could get all my software on a Mac I would probably switch over. But I cant so I wont.

I meant I am building a gaming machine, for the reason that I will need some things that are windows only and for the fact that most games are not designed for / playable on Macs.

Gaming machine OS = Windows *(with a Linux partition)

Don't do the switch. I don't see the Mac offering you anything valuable. The problems you mention are easily remedied. My girlfriend regrets buying her Mac. She said it's the biggest waste of money on a computer.

yeah Macs are THE best computers for video editing, picture editing, graphics editing (3ds max etc). period. However, if its for gaming, mac is not the best choice because most to all companies nowadays create games on Windows compatibility first, and maybe, 4-6months later, have a version that is compatible with Mac.

Macs are awesome, but since I dont have a problem with Windows, you might want to to take that with a grain of salt

Real player suxors, and WMP asking you if you are sure is like some guy asking if you are sure you don't want a hit

OS X is great, but I sure hope you don't play games, because like others said, OS X is notthe platform, and it has to do with more than just market share.

Go Mac, and don't look back. Otherwise, don't bother.
