Default I'm a white guy dating an Asian girl

Trying to learn Korean? Now don't get me wrong, I really do enjoy learning new languages- I took 5 years of French and 2 years of Ancient Greek (dont ask), but would it be stupid of me to take some classes in Korean? I have been dating my girlfriend for about 18 months now and her parents still speak Korean within their family and her grandparents do not even speak any English. If I were to take some classes, do you think her family would give me respect for showing my dedication to her, or do you think they would just laugh at the white boy trying to speak Korean? Obviously I would not be very good, and I would never be able to get my accent right, but would they think I was stupid or would they actually appreciate the effort?

i think if anything, they would probably respect you more because you actually care and are taking the time and effort to learn their language in order to communicate with them. and the plus side is you can understand them when they talk about you what does your girlfriend think?

I'm in about the same situation, but my g/f just told me that yes they would laugh their heads off, mainly because they laugh at her because she is half hispanic and have asian and she doesn't speak vietnamese at all, and when she tries there is a big joke, but hey, I think they would appreciate it deep down because you are showing your dedication to her, so go for it, just be ready to laugh with them. Hey it can't hurt

If she wanted someone that could speak Korean she would have gotten with a Korean guy. Just my opinion.

From experience, they'll appreciate the gesture, even if you do end up slaughtering the pronounciations. Go for it.
