Default Info on New Orleans

Anyone here from New Orleans? I have to fly to the area and check in to the Tuoro Infirmary Monday and don't know a thing about the area. I will be without a car and was wondering how to get around safely. Any help?

Hi T46,
MSY is about 15 miles from downtown and 18 mi from Tuoro which is in the lower garden district. Tuoro is about 3 mi from Bourbon St. If you take a cab from MSY it will run you about $35. You can take a downtown shuttle ($10) to one of the hotels on St. Charles St. and then take a cab for $3-5. You could also take the St. Charles trolley to Louisiana Ave and your just a few blocks away. You can take the trolley (buy a day pass) back and forth to the quarter or up to the riverbend. It's very safe. You can walk around the garden district pretty much until dark, of course the quarter is very safe in the tourist areas. Riverbend is also safe if you want to go to dinner. You're not far from Tulane and Loyola, they're still on summer break but some stuff is still going on. You're close to the zoo. All kinds of restaurants are within downtown, the quarter, warehouse and garden districts and riverbend. The aquarium is on the river by the quarter (take the trolley and change to the bus w/ your pass) and so is a mall etc.

It's very much safe down there. The kingfish is right, you'll be surprised how far the airport is away.

Things to do: Is it just you? If you've got a few people, get a reservation at Emeril's in the Warehouse District. WOW. Also take the Natchez river tour if you've never been on the Mississippi, it's very interesting. And if you happen to have a few too many socials and have the late night hungries, there's a LUCKY DOG cart on every corner. HELLO!
