i don't remember offering you any advice on shredders??? 
I mostly keep all of my bills for my taxes.... we own a mortgage company and the last time I checked, damn near everything i charge (online porn, shoes, food, car parts, more online porn) is tax deductible. 
I only throw away credit card statements after 7 years is up...by then I have a different credit card anyway.

If you're going to get a shredder,go for cross cut. We're on our second at home and they tend to jam. At work (a state agency) we have several. The most heavy duty stright line still jams regularly and strips of paper are a lot easier to reconstruct than thousands of little diamonds.
I'm president of a club that used to meet on a Air Force Reserve base (before 9/11) and they used a cross cut in the base hangar.
