Default inkjet vs. laserjet

i'm in need of a printer and i'm wondering which is more cost effective? currently i'm using a canon low end inkjet and the damned thing seems to want a new B/W cartridge every 50 pages, and each cartridge is like $15! i heard laserjets are more cost effective (but more expensive up front) and more difficult to maintain, plus their rollers need cleaning more often due to the carbon dust build up, is this true?

I think they practically give away inkjet printers so they can make money off the cartridges.

Yeah, you can pick one up for like $20. Then you need to replace the ink every other month.

cartridges are more expensive than inkjet printers haha. The main reason i choose laser is because i can't stand how slow inkjet prints.

Yeah, if you print a lot, then you should get the laser. Lasers are cool in and of themselves.

I just got a Dell Laserprinter, 1710. Highly rated, $160. Replacement cartriges are $70 for 3,000 pages and $90 for 6,000 pages. I comes with a 3,000 page cartridge so that means the printer itself is less than $100. Amazing, considering when lasers came out, there were $1k+.

i am thinking to buy a new printer, will mostly go for a all-in-one (printer, copier, scanner, no phone line for a fax tho) b&w laster with a hardwire network card. must be mac compatible. considering a Brother but have not put alot of research into it.

i might still buy a color ink jet printer in addition but must have a network card too.

the ink jet cartridges always dry out on me, i dont print things that often, so a laser would be fine.

For B&W laser is WAY cheaper per page.

If you do need a lot of color inkjet prints then pay more for the printer up-front because the "pro" printers with larger cartridges actually cost less on ink cost.

You could just refill your cartridges yourself...
