Default Invisible Fence

Hi all,

Does anyone have any experience with Invisible Fence? Are they worth the money? Do they work that much better than other products?

I was looking at PetSafe or Innotek that you can buy from PetSmart since they are almost 3 times cheaper. The only thing about these system is that I have to install it myself.

Thanks

Yes, the system does work. For me it meant allowing my dog to run free in the yard instead of being on a leash or a run...much better for the dog. Only a few concerns...my dog blazed a grass-free trail around the yard at the edge. She knew the limits and always ran around the edges on patrol (she was a beagle though, other dogs may not do that). Secondly, be aware that if the power goes out, your dog is free! We had an escape or two when the power went out. Otherwise, I think its a great product, and actually better for the dog who gets to roam free in the yard without a risk of going in the street.

My inlaws have one of these, and if their terrier sees a cat, there is no stopping her. She just blows right past the fence. But it seems to work well most of the time.

We have rough collies one of the dogs was Ok with the fence the other one was really smart and realized once you 'blew through' the fence the shock was over and he was free. So...I guess it depends on the dog. We don't use it any more.

My dog would never fall for that crap. He'd just blow by that fence like nothing.

I have one in my house blocking passage to the front side of the house for 2 reasons. My mother hates that the dog can roam the house and eat or destroy anything she wants, and my house is on a very busy street, if the dog got out the front door it would be all but certain death.

I have an Innotek. It has the little "base station" its the "Room Free" model. My dog knows its the collar, and knows where the "wall of shock" is but if she wants to go through for whatever reason she will, knowing that the shock stops after the "wall" is passed.

I am the director of an afterschool daycare. Could you imagine having like three "timeout collars" for the misbehaving kids? Set a very small perimeter and just forget them...I mean t only for five minutes at a time. That's funny to think about, but so wrong.

if they had a model that would keep shocking until the dog passed back into the yard, that would be great.

Just do this, set up a second invisible fence a couple feet outside the first. Then pump up the juice on the second fense's collar. Attach the second collar to your dog's balls (assuming a boy). Then when he blasts through the first and thinks he's home free, the second will debilitate him. And maybe he'll reason that there are always larger and larger fenses, with more testicular pain each time, so he'll head back.
