The iPhone killer
Verizon Storm/Thunder is being predicted as an iphone killer as well. We'll see, preliminary reports of the g1 is that the web browser is a little jerky but otherwise a well made phone. No multi-touch at this time however.
The big problem with Android is there is no direct hardware tie in imo - its the same problem people have with Windows and PC makers. iPhone and iPod killers keep getting announced like waves on the beach, but we have yet to see one, so we'll see. No one seems to get that part of the appeal is the end to end functionality Apple offers. Microsoft has started using this business model with the Zune and Xbox to mixed success.
It's all about marketing. Sure the OS is great, but it's how you SELL that great OS that gives Apple it's outstanding success. I have yet to see someone market as good as apple does, it's quite amazing. They have one kick ass marketing team.
The big news is new OS options for phones. With Android and Apple we're finally seeing good phone software - even if its not an iPhone killer, it surely will be better than Symbian and one can hope WindowsMobile.

i sure hope HTC learned from their WING phone. The wing is a cool phone, but the processor and the limited amount of on board RAM sucked A$$. You only had to open 2-3 apps and the damn thing froze on you and you had to remove the battery to fix the issue.
the iphone, every couple of weeks you hear another bad. people hate it.
the other day i looked at the htc diamond touch, the screen is so tiny and not readable outside the office. good its vga resolution tho, junk.
