Sorry, I should have specified. I meant scratch-wise. I know the 3GS has an extra coating on the back of the phone (compared to the standard 3G), but ever since they migrated away from the aluminum backing of the original iPhone, its durability hasn't necessarily improved. The plastic housing feels cheaper, but I'm too careful to actually test it. I could certainly be mistaken.

Pretty much what wickerbill said.

The iphone has a standard 1 year warranty. All applecare gives you is an extension of that warranty to 2 years.

You may be thinking of the phone support that is only for 90 days unless you get applecare where it is extended to two years. I just go to the apple store if I have a problem so that phone support is worthless to me. I can usually find the answer I need with a google search a lot faster than I could call anyways.
Thanks!!!

Just received my 3GS yesterday, will open it and activate it this weekend, the standard warranty is good enough for me.

Thanks again

Something to consider when you're buying a case:

The problem with cases is that you often don't get a full charge on the battery. This is due to heat being trapped against the back of the phone while charging.

Let It Breathe

Charging your iPhone while in certain carrying cases may generate excess heat, which can affect battery capacity. If you notice that your iPhone gets hot when you charge it, take it out of its case first.

I bought a silicone case on eBay for $5, and a static screen protector for like $3. I've had a few drops, and accidentally put my keys in the same pocket as my iphone several times, but my phone looks I'd say 8.5/10 perfect

ifrogz on 3g ftmfw. the screen protector it comes with has the thickest plastic ever too.

the apple care DOES cover drops/water damage/whatever - just doesnt cover STOLEN iphones, but car insurance/house insurance will.
