Default iPod & iTunes

OK, I just got a 60gb & 2bg iPod (refurbished , pretty good deals at apple!), ripped over 1000 CD's into my iTunes; I'm curious if there is anything you guys have done that later regretted with your iPod?

Have any tips or tricks you use? What kind of MP3 players do you guys use?

I'm a Mac guy (who worked for Microsoft in Redmond so I'm not a PC hater and I'd hate for this to end up being a Mac/PC argument, their pointless) but finally got an iPod to get all my music in one place.

I thought they were great deals too, but then I found out the battery life is only like, 2 hours tops!

2 hours? wtf? My 80gb lasts a lot longer than that - all week on one charge!

Some tips - don't copy your music library into itself, it will duplicate all your songs. Rankings are great if you go through the trouble of ranking all your music because it lets you sort by what you really like. If your iPod has enough capacity to hold all your music, its a de facto back up hard drive, which is cool.

I have an Alpine HU that links with the iPod so I can use the iPod in my car seemlessly - that is a great feature.

Podcasts are great - find the ones you like like Wall Street Journal and the WRC coverage.

No regrets with the iPod, just lots of uses. Wire your ipod into your radio - FM transmitters suck.

^ Dim the back light. After about 1/4 brightness your just wasting battery. For mp3 use, I set it to the dimmest setting. For videos, I use 1/4 brightness. (Although mine isn't a refurb. I think you should see great results.)
