Default iPod touch?

Im not really a fan of apple products and know very little about the ipods.

Can you import mp3 from any source or are you strictly limited to iTunes?

Im considering picking up the 64GB touch today if i can use it without itunes.

Only if you want the fully automatic features the Apple system provides. You can use Winamp and such, not sure about all music apps though.

you can import files from other sources.. you just go to add file to library. this was on previous generations of ipod touch (2nd gen) i had... you might want to call apple to find out if you can do it with the newer touch.

I use Raphsody for my primary music source and just wana make sure my imported CDs and raphsody purchases wont conflict with all the over zealous anti piracy crap apple makes wont stop me.

just checked the files on my comp and id say half of the hundreds of files i have in the itunes library are not itunes files, they are mp3's.. but their in the same library as the itunes files since i added them.. they played just fine on a ipod touch (2nd gen) i had, as well as a ipod nano (last gen).

I think I have 12 Apple AAC files out of 10,000 or so, I buy my music from Amazon, not Apple. My big issue is that I can't rip the music off any iPod or other Apple device because of the outdated anti-pirating software.

i think the OP is good to go.. as long as you downloaded mp3's "legally", then your good to go.. remember the ipod is still considered an mp3 player

...and if you happen to have CDs that you plan to import into iTunes, make sure to make MP3 the format they're imported to. By default it's something different.
