once again, Apple designers come up with "cute" but flawed products. Assuming that there are enough people out there who care less about the product's capabilities than the design, they are bound to make Apple a little money.

^LOL

The neat thing about the MiniMac is you don't attach a monitor, then you get all the excitement of sending and receiving emails and playing games without knowing what the hell is really going on. I mean, if being able to know what you are doing is fun, imagine how much fun not knowing can be! Apple has developed a new iShuffle motorcycle helmet with an opaque faceshield, and are just waiting for the legal department to work out the liability angle before releasing it. I can't wait to find out how much fun it can be flying down a freeway in broad daylight and not being able to see where I am going! Imagine my surprise and excitement upon removing the helmet, and seeing where I actually ended up, instead of where I thought I was going I am giddy with anticipation :shiver:

Seriously? My girffriend inherited the fastest Powerbook Ti (1.8 ish?) and it is SLOW as dirt compared to my two year old Dell laptop at 2.2 ghz. It's feels like it's about half the speed with anything other than booting up and restoring (wow, .5 sec on refresh -- seriously impressive) and sustained downloads over wireless where it's about equal in speed to my PC. In every other way it's painfully slow and I've optimized the heck out of that little thing. We both highly prefer PCs now and would never buy another Mac after getting this one.
the Titanium Powerbooks topped out at 1GHz, so yes, GHz to GHz, it is less than half your PCs "speed".

you need more RAM.

what did you do to "optimize the little thing"?

OK let me have it

Heh, not a Mac war by any means. I really just can't see what the fuss is all about. Her Powerbook Ti is 1.5ghz, which is the fastest 12" model. My machine is 2.2ghz and steps down to 1.2ghz about 90% of the time (but is not supposed to slow down Pentium M chips). (I thought all the Mac people used to say that you couldn't compare RISC to CISC and that Mac chips were double the speed per clock cycle?) Hers almost definitely needs more RAM. To optimize it I spent an afternoon reading up on optimization of OSX and downloaded tools to fix settings that the OS does not manually let you change via the GUI.

It's really more of an observation. There was no comparison between our computers from similar birth dates. My computer, though costing 50% more, is worlds better for actual use. I could see non-professionals eating up Macs for their portability and incredible design, but as far as using one day in and out I just can't see it as a viable alternative. The majority of GUI changes in OSX just annoy me (and I know you can turn them off but my g/f likes that crap ) I think much less of Macs now that I actually have one in my home.

You guys don't have to agree, but those are sentiments. Have a good day

Heh, Ok. Me neither.

1. There has never been a Titanium Powerbook 12".
2. IF there was a Titanium Powerbook 12" it would not be at 1.5GHz, since the fastest Titanium Powerbook was clocked at 1.0GHz.
3. Even IF you DID have the NEWer ALUMINUM 12" Powerbook, it would not be 1.5GHz, as only the 15" and 17" Aluminum Powerbooks have that. The 12" Aluminum Powerbook is currently at 1.33GHz.
4. Apple does not manufacture their own chips. Motorola and IBM makes them.
5. People used to say that the chips Apple uses for their computer were about twice the clock speed, and I don't think it's true anymore. Chip makers have come a long way, especially for mobile computing (efficiency).
6. If you haven't added any RAM, then that is your problem. Optimization does little or nothing unless something is truly going wrong.
7. Whatever you say, dude. What kind of reasoning is that? Only non-professionals can use Macs? Guess you haven't heard of UNIX? I mean, what kind of professional users use UNIX still?
8. You should use it as your only computer for a month, and then talk. It was definitely awkward coming from Windows.I think much more of Macs now that I actually use one in my home.

I don't agree. Have a good day.

Wow, that is small.

I'd still rather have a mini though
