At the last company I was with (for three years), my boss had a meeting with our group after we moved into a new location. He said that all he wanted us to do was get our work done. If it took 5 hours, fine. If it took 10 hours, stay 10 hours, but get it done. Once the work was completely done, we could go. However, it was rather rare for us to never have anything to do so it was sort of a moot point. It was, however, nice to at least have the option...

In my current job, I was brought in to help fulfil a contract which was promptly changed. I now sit at work, supposedly on an internship to learn, and do nothing but post my theological rhetoric and miscellaneous comments on here or else surf the web. I am now a certified genius at looking busy while doing nothing AND I HATE IT! I'm making 20% more a year here than I did at my last job and I'm doing about 20% of the work!

I do hate people that keep track of your hours, though. I can understand that it is necessary in a work place to have and hold a standard (else EVERYONE leaves early/slacks off) but if an individual is working hard and completing their tasks (and then some), why not let 'em loose? I feel for ya.

Even better,
The person who likes to make MY business THEIR business has two kids, One is 3 yrs/old and the other 1 yr/old, and Both are in Daycare and have been since they where born. They both work and I know that their salaries do not compensate for the quality time lost in the hands of another person. i.e. they don't make enough to justify working.

Example:

If said person makes $40,000 /per year and the cost of childcare for two babies equal cost $100 perday or 25,000 a year that's only 15,000 take home. So that family is getting paid $15,000 to miss out on their child's Childhood.

My point?
They're going to be one of those parents that say, " I can't believe little Suzy got Pregnant, I thought we raised her right!" Answer! you weren't there to raise her at all!

The world is filled with F*ed up people that think Hypocrisy and Selfishness is the way of life!
Religon = Filled with Hypocrites
Relationships = Filled with Selfishness
I'm Guilty of both!

I'm not perfect, but then again I don't take the time out to judge others thinking that I am!

Ah, jealousy in the workplace. Sadly, I think you'll find people acting like this in most every company. And remember, your success only makes them that much more jealous.

I wouldn't try to play the game by their rules and try to keep track of their time. They probably have a lot more backstabbing experience than you do. And now that you have been "exposed" by them, your boss could very well think you are just trying to get back at them. It's kind of sad, but he who fires the first shot seems to retain the credibility. At least that's how it was for me.

I had valid complaints against a person who had backstabbed me the previous year and our HR department didn't take them seriously and didn't do shit about it all because of the past history. Well, at least before my boss got involved on my side.

Tell your boss that if they wouldn't be spending so much time keeping track of you, they would be more preductive and would cause less friction in the work environment.

I, too, am a web developer. We are on Salary, which means, as long as you get your work done, who gives a rats ass on when you come in or how long you take your lunch.

You should also tell your boss if those person(s) have a problem with you, they should come to you and not drag the boss into it.

I have a guy I work with that is a puppet to my boss. One day I made up a story and he came over to say stuff about it. I told him it's none of his f---ing business and never talk to me again.

Keep in mind, people in these environments thrive on others since they are lazy and don't want to do their work. Those people are the most entertaining of all since they are stupid anyway.

[This is a pet peave of mine also]

Like everyone else I too have many sides to my personality. Today I'm Henry Rollins, ever heard his "spoken words" CDs? That's me at different points in the day. Anger takes over me everytime I'm in traffic, at work, or in line at any government facility!

I'm getting !

Don't worry about what others think......worry about what your boss thinks. Did you ask him what he thought about it?

He said to me Straight out, " I don't give a Flying Donkey what you do as long as project deadlines are met." However, All this talk about me will eventually get to some higher ups and then HE will have to answer to them and he doesn't like to be put on the spot for that. It just makes him look bad. Now, I don't know if he's playing the game as well, but WHATEVER! I'm workin' on getting out of here soon. 5 years at the same company is enough for me!

Anyone need a ASP, JAVA, and DHTML Programmer with Macromedia and Adobe front end Development experience?
Oh! and Also LAN/WAN connectivity, VPN, and RAS.

Put laxative in their sugar bowl / coffee jar, then complain to the boss that they spend too much time in the toilet.
