Default I've got to RANT about my Workplace!

Who out there works at a place in which other People keep track of your time (even though it not their business), what you wear, and how long you take lunches?

I just got called in to my bosses office and was told that "people" have noticed that I take too long of a Lunch and noticed that I think that I'm too "Good" for Office Policies..i.e Wear shorts on Casual Fridays.

FYI, I feel like the guy in "office space" everyday! It's time to get a new job but the Economy Sucks!

So what should I do?
Start doing the same thing to the "people" that live my life for me..like keep track of their time and what they do and how long they take lunches.

Help!

No one has complained about my responsiblities at work because I'm "THE S@it" when it comes to my job. Not only do I do my job but I know everyone elses job. I might be at work for 5 hrs and get paid salary but when I'm there I get things done! Who's with me here!? And who thinks that I'm wrong for thinking that if I get all my work done in a work day that I can go home. Oh, and if you think that doing extra will get you noticed in this Corp. Your WRONG!. In a big corp. like this one it's Trickle down only! Anything else will seem like your stepping on someones toes.

Work SUCK!

You aren't a postal worker are you? If you are then I believe it should be quite clear what you need to do.

While a certain ammount of slacking is fine, some things are kinda "golden" at some companies. Depends on the place. Some places are strict about time, some about internet useage (obviously not mine ). From what i've observed, you kinda have to just play your company. See what you can and can't get away with. 5 hours a day is a big on the slim side... while we all skim time, 3 hours is a lot of time to skim. People will notice that and report it, usually. You can usually get away with lunches under an hour without people caring (assuming your lunch is supposed to be 30 minutes). It's not so much that you have to work, just have to be around so it looks like you're working

my dad used to always say to me whenever i had a problem at work:

earn your job everyday...

I am only 23, and i am assuming that you are also younger. So my advice to a peer would be to go along with policy. Most places that i have worked did not care that i might take a really long lunch because i also get $hit done. but to upper management, perception is reality. If they see you rolling in late and leaving early, they will think you are a slacker even if you really get more done than everyone else. my plan is to stick to policy and make as few waves as possible until i am in a position to make waves. my dad had another saying...

noone is indespensible...

i know exactly how you feel though, because many days I accomplish a weeks worth of work in a morning and i want to roll, but i am stuck at my desk all day just to put in my time. fill your free time reading on s2ki.com

I can totally relate to you enzyme...I'm a WD too! I had the same "problems" too...'cept that I KNOW who (a fellow WD co worker) told my boss. So from here on out, I treat him just as a co worker rather than a friend. I got my other WD co workers lookin' out for me too. When he asks where I am, my friend just says "Oh, I thought it was YOUR week to watch him!" really pisses him off...
Oh for tips on how to slack correctly, please do a search on slacking 101 it's a hilarious/very informative thread where slackers the world around have offered their tips. Hope this helps!

people should really mind their own business, who ever told your boss is probably doing it for job security.

I just got out of a meeting for the same goddamn shit. I got my umpteenth lecture about putting in 8 hours a day. Despite the fact that I'm salaried! Not only am I the top test conductor at my company but I also have inherited 2 other engineers workloads because they suck. I get more work for being good and the 2 deadbeats (who are much higher paid thean me I might add) get less work. Did my paycheck go up? NO. Did they lose their job or get a reduced paycheck? NO. I still manage to put out my work in under 40 a week but I can't leave early or I get my chops busted. I flat out asked my manager what he supposed I should do, play Solitaire or some other video game to pass the rest of my alloted hours? He had no answer. **** this, I need a new job, this place blows.

Anyone need a rocket/satellite engineer?

HELL YEAH im with you, i hate it when coworkers try to spy on a hard working employee that gets the job done and on time!
i feel like this; if your a good worker then u need to be respected and not spyed or looked upon for misleading evaluations.

-(as i sit on my chair, i wonder how i am going to avoid work today)

Finally, other people who are feeling my pain. I have to deal with two co-workers, who think they get paid to monitor my activities. They even pushed for me to get a new space in the office, which is closer to them. I always hear how they are backstabbing me all the time. It pisses me off. I pull in 90% of our contract work for our group, and then have to do most of it also. I know that I don't put in a full 8 hours a day, but I get everything done before the due date. People should stop watching what other people do, and concentrate on their own business. Then I wouldn't have to do so much of their work also! The difference between me and Trojanhorse is, I demanded a big salary increase and got it, but that is what has caused all of my problems. Now that I make more, they are really pissed at me. We need to all find a company that cares about what gets done and how quickly, versus were you at your desk for 8 hours!

But that is just my opinion, I could be wrong.
