Wow...sad sad news. Is this the 90210 Priestly we are talking of? Pardon my ignorance, but I could have sworn that he had indeed taken up racing.
Best wishes to his family. Hope things pan out alright.

Yea, he has been racing for about 6-7 years now, I believe. I don't think it's too cool to make fun of something like this. He sufferered huge injuries. He hit the wall at 180mph, sustained a broken vertebrae, both feet are shattered and, which this is the worst, suffered a closed cavity brain injury...that is where your head stops, but your brain does NOT and gets bruised from slamming against the inside of the skull.
Not pretty and usually this is something that people don't recover from...or if they do, they suffer from irrecoverable brain damage, where they have to relearn how to walk, talk, eat and that is if they are lucky! Happily, it looks like he can, on command, move all his extremtities and he can respond to outside stimuli. Thank God...no racer deserves that kind of horrendous injury. He also suffered major contusions on the face and bridge of the nose...he's basically beat to sh!t, but his prognosis is at least that he will live.
Here is the story from the IRL's web site...Godspeed to Jason's health and well-being. And if his nurse looks happy, it's got to be because he is still freaking ALIVE.

Priestley, 32, from Vancouver, British Columbia, was transferred to Methodist

My sympathies to the driver. That said, I will add that I don't believe the news reports that he hit the wall head on at 180 MPH. Look at the vehicle. Does it look to you like it was going 180? I know they are built to protect the driver, but I can't accept that was the speed at which he hit. Anybody else?
