I am graduating in 4 days with a BSE in Industrial Engineering and accepted a job offer in January. I supposed to start work June 18 and I put a $500 deposit on a black/black s2000 while I waited for delivery.

Yesterday, the company called me and regretfully informed me that they have to rescind their offer and won't be able to promise any position in the future. Not only do I lose my first job, but I will also lose my first car. It supposed to deliver next week after graduation.

Well, with all the stuff I bought for it already... I'm not giving up on my dream car. It'll just have to wait for another year. Maybe I'll end up getting the MY2003 with the soft top and glass rear window and 2.2 liter.

If anyone here can help out a programmer/developer with contact information or something, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Here's a link to my website. It has my resume, portfolio, and other information:

TIA

I have worries with my offer being rescinded as well. Was this a tech company? I start in September.

If any of you have any insights into the economic/financial status of Big 5 firms, please share!

I'm sorry to hear this, man. I totally feel for you. Keep it positive.

It's an application service provider, and it was a small-medium size company. around 150 employees.

I also heard that Accenture hired 2000 employees too much.
Intel gave un-signing bonuses to those who accepted to work there.

I'm thinking I might have to graduate school.

Hey clckwrkrnj, sorry to hear about that, I graduate from pharmacy school in one week. I'm sure a position will turn up soon, and hopefully you can still get your hands on the Stook. Good luck.

I have heard of more and more about this kind of thing with rescinded job offers. I have also seen where companies that do it are offering cash in what they call a "goodwill gesture", but what I would more appropriatly call a buy-out of a "contract".

It won't pay for the car, but cash is never bad and could pay for a down payment!

Why in the world did they wait so long to tell you, geez! I mean, it's already May. You could have been looking for another job all this time. Did you reject any previous offers? Perhaps you can follow up on those.

good luck.

Sorry to hear the bad news. Some investment banks are asking their incomming classes not to show up until November, December, January... There are rampant rumours about law firms planning to downsize (or, in the new lingo, "rightsize").

Not to put salt on the wound, but if all you lose is a $500.00 deposit, then it is a cheap lesson about not counting those chickens before they hatch. I'm learning the lesson myself - if I get canned I'm going to have to figure out how to pay off my car loan!

Good luck finding a new job. If you can find one out here in Silcon Valley, the rents are dropping!

Well I have a Master's in Engineering Management from Stanford and nobody is hiring. In fact 6 of my best friends have all lost their jobs recently and are planning on leaving the valley. A massive portion of MBA's are graduating with ZERO job offers.

Man, how things changed. Last year, I had offers without people even seeing my resume, just on a 20 minute greeting.

Oh well, it's for the better in the long run.
