Has anyone been watching this HBO series? If so, where is it going and what/who is John?

 

tried watching. thought it was crap and boring

try Flight of the Conchords

 

You have to give HBO shows 3 episodes before you call them crap. ALL HBO shows I LOVED have bored me the first few episodes.

 

hated the first episode. now after 3 or 4, im digging it. def strange. al bundy is great!

 

So anyone care to take a guess as to what or who John is? My take is he is an angle sent to save the family. If that's the case, there must be a devil in the story.

I really have no idea what's going on in this show. You have to give HBO shows at least 3-4 episodes before writing them off. This isn't my favorite so far, but it's worth watching. I think the boy was given the job because he could surf, not because he's going to be the next Marlon Brando though.

 

It's an interesting show so far...confusing as hell at first, but starting to grow on me.

 

Obtuse or acute???

a little humor at your expense

its the same writers from Deadwood and from what I have seen so far they are over-wording the actors again. overly verbose IMHO.

stilted dialogue works for a victorian era western series but not for surfers.

it flows kinda weird from a diologue standpoint.
