Default Jury Duty ...

anyone know how i can get out of going to jury duty? the day i'm supposed to go for the orientation or interview is on the same day i'm suppose to fly out to Vegas for a friends wedding.
the letter that i got was actually sent to my parents home. since it came as regular mail (rather than certified or registered) can i just ignore the letter, as if i never received it? any thoughts or suggestions would be most appreciated, thanks!

In my experience they'll often let you postpone service. Read the letter carefully.

Trying to simply ignore it is amongst the stupidest of things you can do: ignoring a court order can get you arrested.

Call the clerk of the court and go in and show them your airline ticket. I had been called for Federal Jury duty, but already had tickets and they excused me.

You don't even need to show proof.
Just call them and tell them to re-schedule. Period.

They don't need to know and they don't care either.
Just as long as you serve.

Then next year, do it again.

BTW, the best time to reschedule is between Christmas and New Years. The judge, lawyers, and jury don't want to be there so people are usually excused to go home by noon.

yep, just tell 'em you can't make it and they will throw your name back in the hopper. Next time they call you though, it may bit tougher to get out of!

If all else fails call the judge, but don't ignore the summons.
